I did it, finally.
W1D1 of C25K completed – that’s Week 1, Day 1 of the Couch to 5k Running plan for anyone not au fait with the acronyms.
I actually went out first on Thursday night just to walk the route I planned on taking and it did not go so well, there were so many people out and about – I walked for 10 minutes and then decided to just give a little run a go. I only ran for about 90 seconds and as soon as I stopped I felt light headed again – the world was spinning, blurred eyes etc.
I felt so dejected, I just couldn’t understand why it was happening because I’m fit..OK I am not Jillian Michael’s, but I should be able to run for 90 seconds without feeling like I am going to drop and to prove it to myself I hopped on the elliptical and did 90 minutes at 155bpm.
I started a thread on a forum and got lots of advice from experienced runners and fellow newbies, most of the responses said I should see a doctor as I probably have an inner ear problem but I discarded those for now and took head of the more sensible offerings.
Tonight I went out again – this time making sure I was well hydrated before setting off and I really concentrated on my breathing. It was hard…oh so hard…my heart rate was 160 – 170 most of the time. But not a bit of lightheadedness to be seen.
I managed to complete day 1 and am actually looking forward to day 2 now (will I be so keen when I wake up with all the associated aches and pains though? hehe).
I’m so pleased I can at least attempt this running thing, I think I could really like it
