Another pound down

November 16th, 2008 admin Posted in Log, Working Out No Comments »

I lost another pound, oh happy days.

I think I have just been lucky though, and it’s a result of the shock to my body, because work out wise I am really struggling to get back into it — I have already skipped a few days since I have been home and I am having a hard time doing more than about 45 minutes.

I think I am probably just bored of the elliptical, I might have to switch it up.

Weighing in tonight

November 3rd, 2008 Toria Posted in Healthy eating, Off Topic, Working Out No Comments »

I am headed home tonight, I have family coming back with me so I won’t be able to get 100% back to normal right away. But I will be hopping on the elliptical tomorrow and I will be weighing myself tonight, GULP, I am nervous as to how that’s going to go — I have not worked out at all in over a week and I haven’t exactly been good with my eating, I’ve had Subway 3 times, Curry twice and a Kebab….plus bits of chocolate here and there and plenty of crisps.

Another small little success.

October 20th, 2008 Toria Posted in Goal, Working Out No Comments »

I was trying on some clothes yesterday, as I have a funeral to attend on Friday, and I was pleased to see that some black trousers that have not fit me in several years now do. Yay. These are pants that I was wearing 5 years ago when my other half and I first got together, the last time I tried them on a few months ago they were no where near…and now, despite not having really lost a lot more weight since then, they fit like a glove :)

Sez Who?

October 20th, 2008 Toria Posted in Goal, Healthy eating, Working Out No Comments »

You may have noticed that I have added a rating system here at LosingPounds.org thanks to ‘SezWho’ - basically it allows you to vote on my posts, give them a star rating out of 5…as well as rate any comments left. You don’t have to register to cast your vote, but if you do then your vote has more ‘power’ and you get to create your own little profile page. I like it a lot so far, hopefully it’ll be a useful addition to the site.

Parents are moving!

October 14th, 2008 Toria Posted in Working Out No Comments »

I spoke to my mum and dad a few days ago and they told me that they are moving to Kent, however pretty much every time I talk to them they tell me they are moving somewhere new…Greece, Tenby, Derby and now Kent — but they are still in the old house where they have lived for over 30 years now, bless em, moving is not ever really going to happen, although hey who knows they might just surprise every one and go ahead and do it.

It would be kind of cool if they did move down that way, being near Dover with the option of easily being able to hop on Cross Channel ferries to places like Dunkerque in France would be pretty neat — taking in the sights and atmosphere for me, getting cheap booze to bring home for my soon to be husband aha.

I was just seeing how far it is from here to Dover…a three and a half hour drive…that’d be a bit of a pain for visiting them, but I think the benefits outweigh the down sides. According to NorfolkLine.com is only takes an hour and 45 minutes to get from Dover to Dunkerque on one of their fancy new ferries — that’s pretty sweet.

Now I just have to hope they do go through with it this time :)

I confused myself

September 29th, 2008 Toria Posted in Healthy eating, Log, Success, Working Out No Comments »

I have done exactly what I said I wasn’t going to do and at last nights weigh in — I used both sets of scales again…and now, well colour me confused.

I have no idea if I lost weight, gained weight or stayed the same.

Having two different sets of scales on the go is not a good idea!

The old scales now read 11.6, I think they were 11.7 last week but that might have just been a blip because they were 11.6 previously.

The new scales now read 11.8, I think they were 11.9 last week so I think I lost 1lb this week — but who knows? Stupid me lol

10 Tips on boosting your metabolism

September 11th, 2008 Toria Posted in Goal, Log, Success, Working Out No Comments »

You hear it all the time - “metabolism”, but what is it? It’s the process of converting food to energy (movement and heat). Metabolism happens in your muscles and organs and the result of it is what we commonly refer to as “burning calories”. Metabolism is essentially the speed at which your body’s motor is running.

1. Always eat breakfast! Skipping breakfast sends the message to your body that you’re starving because you haven’t had food in 18+ hours. As a protective mechanism, your metabolism slows down. Food, especially complex carbohydrates, fuels your metabolism.

2. Eat earlier in the day! Research has demonstrated that you can lose weight simply by eating a substantial breakfast and lunch, and a light dinner. Dinner should be eaten as early as possible, preferably at least four hours before bedtime.

3. Never eat less than 1200 calories per day! Less than 1200 is usually not enough to support your basal metabolism and thus will slow your metabolism.

4. Snack frequently! Complex carbohydrates (fruits, vegetables, and grains) fuel your metabolism. Also, snacking prevents you from becoming too hungry. The hungrier you are, the less control you have over what and how much you eat.

5. Eat more carbohydrates (food from plants), and less fat (food from many animals and other food with added fat)! Carbohydrates boost your metabolism and have fewer calories per weight than fat.

6. Do some type of aerobic exercise (walking, jogging, swimming, stationary cycling, aerobic dancing, etc.) on a daily basis (preferably in the morning)! Forget this twice-a-week stuff. Our bodies were designed to be active on a daily basis! When we are, our metabolism soars!

7. Tone your muscles with weight training three days per week. Toned muscles send your metabolism through the roof. Do it!

8. Look for situations to be active. Park as far from the store as you can rather than looking for the closest parking spot. Use the stairs rather than the elevator, a broom rather than a blower, etc. Look for the “hard” way to do things!

9. Avoid alcohol! Alcohol depresses your metabolism and stimulates your appetite.

10. Drink 60+ ounces of water a day. Your metabolism needs plenty water to function properly. Carry a bottle of water with you and drink frequently throughout the day.

I love Wales

September 8th, 2008 Toria Posted in Log, Working Out No Comments »

I love going to Wales on holiday, it’s absolutely my favourite place in the UK to visit.
When ever it is possible my other half and I like to go to South Wales, to the Pembrokshire area — but that is a very long way from where we are, so when we only have the chance to go on a short break we head to somewhere nearer such as Snowdonia that is in the North of Wales. Though we haven’t been on a Snowdonia Holiday in a good few years now I can’t wait to get back there — it;s so picturesque and beautiful and a wonderful place for a relaxed holiday, walking along the beaches, taking in the stunning castles or going on a mountain walk — but there’s also lots of action to be had when you feel the need for an adrenaline rush or night on the tiles. And there always seems to be an event of some sort going on. It really is a great location for a holiday.

I just requested a brochure from Snowdonia Tourist Services. I hope that it will contain information for next years season as there is no chance we will be able to go this year though, fingers crossed :)

Home made onion bahjis

September 5th, 2008 Toria Posted in Goal, Healthy eating, Working Out No Comments »

I’m not much of a cook, in fact…I am not a cook at all. The less time in the kitchen the better!

I am terrible at it and I don’t enjoy it, but today I did some cooking — I made some healthy onion bahjis, I absolutely love them and have been eating them a lot lately, trying to fit them in to my days calorie allowance etc.

The ones I made are 25 calories each and the bought ones are 50 calories each, I halved them, and they taste just as nice if not nicer. Now I can eat twice as many, or just have one as I always have 25 cals to spare on a snack.

I am impressed with myself :)

No more loss

August 21st, 2008 Toria Posted in Working Out No Comments »

So, I haven’t lost any more weight since that first 2lbs. Ugh. I was so hopeful that that loss meant the end of my plateau and I’d see a few big losses.

I’ve only lost 1 stone in 6 months.

I’m going to a wedding in December that I want to look haaaaaaaaawt for, I was hoping to be at my goal of 10.2 by then but that seems highly unlikely at the moment. Oh well, I shall keep at it…a stone in 6 months is sure better than nothing.
