So the festive period has not been a good time for me in terms of weight loss – it’s the first time in over 3 years I have gained a little weight that has not instantly shifted again. 4lbs to be exact – doesn’t sound like a lot I know but 4lbs is about as much as I had lost in total in the last 6 months so it’s a pretty big deal. I am now back up to 9.1 from 8.11 and am again teetering on that edge of being in the overweight BMI category.

In previous years at Christmas I would allow myself some treats and high calorie days and maybe gain a pound or two that would instantly fall back off as soon as I was back on the wagon – I feel sometimes it even helped me lose weight as it gave my body that jolt it sometimes needs.

This year that few days lasted a few weeks instead, I just couldn’t reign myself in – we were given so much chocolate and other goodies by my fiances family – in previous years I had been living at home and surrounded by my own family and friends who know not to go crazy with giving me naughty foods – this year I was surrounded by his family, one of whom actually works at Thorntons and gets a lot of cheap and even free chocolates.

We had 3 large boxes of Thorntons, a tin of Roses, 2 x boxes of After Eights, 3 Cheesecakes, 2 x chocolate logs, Foxes biscuits, after eight santas, tubs of pringles – and that’s not counting all the regular naughty food you have at Christmas like sausage rolls, Indian snacks, meat, gravy, potatoes, cheese etc

I even partook in a little drinking on New Years Eve, something I have not done in around 3 or 4 years. I was quickly reminded why I stopped drinking though, man hangovers suck!

One good thing about it though is that it has focused me again and I am now back to eating well and working out – I have been swimming, on the elliptical and running in the last week, all of which are things I hadn’t done in at least a few months previous to that

So Christmas came and went and I gained a pound, that’s all, I can deal with gaining a pound. I certainly enjoyed my food and drink over the last few weeks allowing myself many treats and even an alcoholic drink – it’s the first Christmas in three years that I’ve just gone for it and not worried too much about calories.

I didn’t go crazy, almost 3 years into this healthier lifestyle of mine now I don’t think I could ever really just let loose and eat any thing and every thing in sight – but because it was over a 2 week period and I did little exercise in between I was expecting a bigger gain!

Back on the wagon now!
